Name and location Mount Arafat lies 22 km east of Makkah in the plain of Arafat. [1] Mount Arafat reaches about 70 m in height and is also known among people as the mount of mercy. The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is called Arafat day because Hajj pilgrims spend their whole day in the plain of Arafat. The rituals on the Day of Arafah • Staying at Arafah is one of the essential components of Hajj.
